To be honest, I kinda don´t feel sorry for any of the girls, since the only thing they are atracted to is his looks and maybe his slight streamer fame. Beside his looks he has zero charm or people skills. (Give his personality to somebody who is even just avarage looking and I bet you the same girls would avoid him as the creepy quiet kid. :D )

I guess Yamada does have charm to his personality, he's really direct and don't really lie about his feelings (unlike certain dudes that just two time every other girl they go out with, like the other dude that Akane was going out with in the beginning of the series)
I think his lack of interest in interacting (or I can say, his fear of getting involved on affairs) is mostly due to past trauma. He doesn't want to get hurt just like a normal human being. He really needs to externalize his root problems first to then be able to open himself up more.
Though it may never happen, he might open himself up to Akane and nobody else in the end, and be stuck in a very needy kind of relationship that is on itself a bit toxic already.

Ok, you do have a point about the "being direct" and all that. But here is the thing. How many of the girls who like him would even know about that part of his personality? That kinda seems like personality trait that somebody might come to appreciate with time as you get to know him, not immediatly. To the contrary in the brief interactions ( which is usually what most people get with him) I could actually easily see it be misconstrued as him just being rude. (Afterall the flip side of that trait is that he does not usually sugar coat things or use white lies.)

He IS rude. He's too self-centered to notice when he's hurting people. I don't know if it's from past trauma or just being born a self-centered person, but either way it's not impressive.

I don't think his lack of interacting is due to a trauma. For me he seems like he simply has Asperger Syndrome/High Functioning Autism. I know a guy like that and he is diagnosed with Asperger. I also have Asperger so I know the traits and I know there is no trauma involved. I was very much like him in high school (I am better now but relationships are still not my cup of tea). For example a guy invited me to a prom but instead of dancing with him I spend the whole night playing a RPG game with my friends in another room. He was very upset for that but I didn't understand why. I invited him to join us so what's his problem? Yeah. I understand now but back then I had no clue about other people feelings. I wasn't a bad person (for example when I saw someone hurt I would give then a tissue right away, without being asked) but I was clueless.

i think personally... he gets it on a visceral level... but on a conscious logical level he's entirely suppressing or 'dumbing down' that part of his personality and social interactions. since 'the elementary school girl' flashback has happened a few times so far, i think 'that girl' has something to do with the guy's problematic viewpoint of social interactions. there's more story behind this guy than we've seen so far, i think it will become more obvious over time why he's like this.

Wow, you're fun. Ever hear of LUV AT FIRST SIGHT? And he acts like a convenience store clerk is less than human or something. Seriously, if someone tells you they like you, be more considerate than that. There's nothing wrong with being attracted to someone for their looks. You can learn more about them later. Most people want to be loved for their personality AND their looks/body.

That's probably the most accurate assessment. He keeps saying "mendokusai" (what a pain). Like any time he is in a social situation he gets uncomfortable and leaves it, without any regard to the other person. Surprised he hasn't been punched in the face yet.

I think the only guy that broke someone's heart was Akane's ex.
He literally two-timed her, its pretty obvious any young girl like her would get heart-broken.
The strangers that are going after Yamada are creepy, even more if they're just crying for being rejected a conversation or a phone number, just like how a "nice guy" curses at pretty ladies once rejected.

There's nothing creepy about a stranger saying they like you. You are just too scared to tell someone you like them, so instead of facing your own lack of courage, you dismiss other people's courage as "creepiness".

For instance, that convenience store girl showed a lot of courage by telling yamada she was interested in him. Since you've obviously never done it before I'll just tell you it's pretty embarrassing to do that. But she gained a level by trying, while he didn't.
